Senior RF Engineer


Position Overview:
The Senior RF Engineer position requires an in-depth understanding of the details surrounding Radio Frequency (RF) network design, capacity planning, and optimization activities for a specific market or region of the country. The Senior RF Engineer will have supervisory responsibilities for lower level engineers and Optimization Specialists. The RF network design skills and knowledge required for the position will include the ability to develop theoretical RF designs utilizing all aspects of propagation prediction software. This includes incorporation of site database information, the ability to incorporate drive test data, and tuning of propagation models. The Senior RF Engineer must have the ability to determine optimal cell placement based on factors relating to zoning restrictions, regulatory related issues, handoff status, path balance, RF interference, coverage footprint and capacity management. The RF Capacity planning skills and knowledge required of the position will include the ability to plan network capacity improvements based on subscriber forecasts, market call models and trending of performance and traffic data.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise all technical duties performed by RF Engineers.
  • Perform RF cell site design.
  • Create search rings, rank candidate and attend site walks.
  • Provide support to site acquisition and construction teams.
  • Attend zoning hearings.
  • Perform coverage and interference analysis.
  • Base station parameter setting, evaluation, and optimization.
  • Link budget analysis.
  • Network statistics analysis.
  • Network performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • MSC and BSC data transcript setting and evaluation.
  • Traffic analysis and prediction.
  • Capacity planning.
  • System optimization and evaluation.
  • Provide coordination and support between RF engineering and drive test teams.
  • Guide and train the staff in engineering tasks.
  • Prepare engineering reports.
  • Review deadlines and schedule work plans.
  • Perform Frequency planning or PN planning

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Communications/ Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • 3-5 years of applicable work experience.
  • Experience with design and optimization in two or more of the current technologies: CDMA, GSM, IS-136, iDEN, etc.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and FCC filing procedures and regulatory issues.
  • Comprehension of advanced technical materials.
