Principal Engineer


Position Overview:
The Principal Engineer position requires a very solid understanding of the details surrounding Radio Frequency (RF) network design, capacity planning, and optimization activities for a specific market or region of the country. The Principal Engineer will have supervisory responsibilities for Associate Engineers, RF Engineers and Senior RF Engineers. The RF network design skills and knowledge required for the position will include the ability to develop theoretical RF designs utilizing all aspects of propagation prediction software. This includes incorporation of site database information, the ability to incorporate drive test data, and tuning of propagation models. The engineer must also be capable of factoring in other infrastructure requirements relating to 4G, 3G, wireless data, fixed wireless, etc.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Technical lead
  • Provide in-depth engineering support without supervision
  • Direct the market level RF Engineering Group (1 to 10 employees)
  • Provide input to the RF Manager on engineers performance
  • Train engineers on technical issues within the field of RF Engineering as well as other disciplines outside of RF Engineering
  • Review and approve all aspects of RF designs submitted from lower level engineers
  • Resolve any outstanding issues related to site design involving other groups
  • Approve the project design and submit to RF manager with recommendations

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in Electrical engineering, Electronics, Communications/ Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree.  
  • 8-9 years of experience in working with GSM/TDMA/CDMA/WCDMA/iDEN networks with 4 years of experience in a team lead role.
  • Expert knowledge of propagation tools (Wizard, Asset 3G, Planet, dB Planner, etc.)
  • Extensive experience with data collection tools (TEMS, Invex 3G, etc.) and post-processing tools such as ACTIX
  • Excellent technical understanding in one or more areas of expertise, such as: RF design and optimization, network design, switching, microwave, ancillary services

  • Strong project management and organizational skill
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • English Fluency (oral, written)
